I am an artist best known for creating life-size crochet sculptures—a practice that I invented and went on to trademark Crochetdermy®.

Crochetdermy® exists in the space between craft and contemporary art, and often explores boundaries and cultural perception. Over the years I have built an extensive body of realistic, life-size animals created using the unlikely medium of crochet. Each animal is posed and presented as a hunting trophy, a comment on the endangered status of both wildlife and what was at the time, an endangered craft. While challenging preconceptions, there is a subversive humour that runs through all of my work. My earliest Crochetdermy® piece was a life-size brown bear, which I entered into the ‘One Crocheted Item’ category at a local flower and produce show. What began as a subversive intervention, backfired when the bear was awarded 'Best in Show'. My work is handmade, it celebrates the power of individuality and the beauty of imperfection, qualities I believe will only gain significance as we move forward into an increasingly digitised world.

Crochetdermy® stands as a testament to the enduring power of authenticity and the irreplaceable nature of human endeavour.
